What Are All-Ceramic Restorations? 

All-ceramic restorations are completely metal-free crowns and prosthetics made from advanced ceramic materials. Designed to replicate the natural translucency and texture of real teeth, they are especially valued in esthetic zones such as the anterior region.  

Because they’re biocompatible, they’re easier on soft tissue and won’t show those dark metal lines that can appear with porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns.

Zirconia is the go-to for strength — it’s great in the back where occlusal force is higher. Lithium disilicate offers a more translucent, natural look, making it a solid choice for anterior esthetic dental restorations.

Yes — especially with zirconia, which can be just as strong (or stronger) than PFMs, and looks a lot better doing it. Plus, there’s no metal margins to worry about.

Not when they’re done right. Modern ceramics are engineered to be kinder to opposing enamel. When properly polished, they cause minimal wear compared to earlier ceramic types.
